Downloading as DOCX or PDF

Download the formatted CV as an editable Word document or a fixed PDF. DOCX suits internal edits and client tweaks; PDF suits final submissions.

Once you are happy with the CV, download it from RemakeCV as DOCX or PDF. Choose DOCX when you or the client may still edit the document, and PDF when it is the final version and the layout must not shift. Downloading does not consume a credit, and you can download the same CV as many times as you need.

Which format should I choose?

DOCXPDF

Trade-offLayout can shift depending on the reader's Word version and installed fontsCannot be edited after download without a PDF editor
FontsUses whatever is installed on the reader's machineEmbedded, so it looks identical everywhere
MetadataCarries document properties and revision dataDropped on export

The short version: PDF unless someone needs to edit it.

Tip:

For anonymised submissions, always send PDF. A DOCX carries document metadata and revision information that a PDF export drops — which matters when the whole point is that the candidate cannot be identified.

Why does my DOCX look different in Word?

Almost always fonts. If your template uses a font that is not installed on the machine opening the file, Word substitutes another one, and spacing shifts.

Two fixes:

  • Send PDF instead, which embeds the fonts.
  • Ask us to build your template on fonts that ship with Microsoft Office.

See the downloaded DOCX won't open correctly.

Can I download in a different template?

Yes. Switch the template and regenerate — the CV does not need re-uploading and no credit is consumed, because the parse has already been done.

Where do downloads go afterwards?

If your company has CV storage enabled, the formatted CV stays in your CV history and can be re-downloaded at any time. If storage is disabled, the file is not retained after your session — download it before you leave the page.

PDF for final submissions, because the layout is fixed on every device. DOCX when the client has asked for an editable file, or when you expect to make further changes.
Does downloading use a credit?

Can I download the same CV again later?
Yes, from CV history — as long as your company has CV storage enabled.
