RemakeCV reconstructs the intended reading order of multi-column, sidebar and heavily designed PDFs automatically, so a creative CV becomes a clean branded document.

Multi-column and heavily designed PDFs store text as positioned fragments with no reading order, which is why copying and pasting one produces interleaved nonsense. RemakeCV checks the reading order of every PDF it extracts and, where the layout calls for it, re-reads the page the way a person would — recovering the intended order before the CV is rebuilt in your template.

Why multi-column CVs defeat most tools

A PDF does not store a document. It stores instructions for painting glyphs at coordinates. There is no "this is column one, read it first" — that structure exists only in the visual arrangement.

So a naive text extraction of a two-column CV reads across the page, producing lines that alternate between the sidebar and the main body:

Parsed as written, that is unusable — skills interleaved with employment history. This is the single most common reason a generic CV parser produces a scrambled result, and it is one of the specific problems RemakeCV was built to solve.

How RemakeCV handles it

Every PDF goes through a reading-order assessment after its text is extracted. Where the extracted order does not read coherently — the signature of columns, sidebars or a designed layout — RemakeCV re-reads the document from the page layout itself, recovering the order a person would read, and the CV is then parsed from that.

This is automatic and applies to every PDF you upload. There is no setting to find and nothing to flag.

Design-heavy CVs are most common in marketing, design and creative recruitment. If you work those desks, this is the part of the pipeline doing the most work for you — and it is worth a quick review of the output on the first few, so you can see how your template handles them.

If something still needs adjusting

Some source documents are genuinely ambiguous even to a human reader — a sidebar with no visual boundary, or a date floating between two roles. Where that happens:

  1. Reprocess

    Free, and never costs a credit. On an ambiguous layout a second pass can resolve it differently.

  2. Adjust the affected section in the editor

    Usually it is one section rather than the whole document. Fix that rather than starting over — see reviewing and editing.

  3. Tell us if a layout recurs

Does the client see the original layout?

No, and that is the point. The output uses your agency template regardless of how the source looked. A candidate's two-column creative CV becomes a standard branded document — the layout is handled on the way in, and is never something your client sees.
